Liberty--Heart
of the Sullivan County Catskills
From Carrier House you can
walk down the hill to Main Street. Once the thriving shopping
district for the hundreds of hotels and bungalow colonies
of the Old Catskills, the Village of Liberty is undergoing
a multi-cultural renaissance of revitalization, community
activism, historic preservation and an economic development
partnership with Cornell University.
The Village of Liberty is
also at the geographic center of Sullivan County. From here
it is a short, beautiful drive to the Delaware River to the
west, Catskill Mountain State Park to the northeast, the new
Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center, and the revitalized Main
Streets of other villages and hamlets throughout the county.
|
In 2006 the entire commercial
downtown district of the Village of Liberty was listed on
the New York State and National Registries of Historic Places.
In 2007 Liberty celebrates its Bicentennial with parades,
fairs and many other events.

Treat yourself to a meal at
our many ethnic restaurants and diners, or visit one of our
friendly "Cheers"-style bars. Sample local produce
and baked goods at our Summer Farmers Market.
|
For life's other needs,
the Village offers a supermarket, public library, post office,
pharmacies, antique shops, a coffee house, video stores and
shops that sell the New York Times.

|
If you love old-time small-town
life, Liberty still has its bowling alley and friendly yard
sales, auctions, lots of parades, street fairs, bingo games,
penny socials, pancake breakfasts and chicken dinners at our
churches, synagogues and fire houses.
|
Liberty residents are proud
of the historic downtown buildings that are being restored,
many of which are in the style of mid-twentieth century America,
especially the 1950s.
